Tattooist and Tattoo Parlour Operators

  • Tattooist Licence

A tattooist licence authorises the licensee to perform body art tattooing procedures in accordance with the Act and the conditions of the licence. It does not authorise the licensee to carry on a body art tattooing business.

Under the Tattoo Parlours Act 2012 (the Act) an individual must not perform any body art tattooing procedure for a fee or reward unless authorised to do so by a tattooist licence. This does not apply to an individual who performs a body art tattooing procedure if the individual carries out the procedure as a self-employed individual at premises for which the individual holds an operator licence.

A body art tattooing procedure is a tattooing procedure performed for decorative purposes, but does not include a cosmetic tattooing procedure.

    Operator Licence

An operator licence authorises the licensee to carry on a body art tattooing business (whether on his or her own behalf or on behalf of another person) at the premises specified in the licence.

A body art tattooing procedure is a tattooing procedure performed for decorative purposes, but does not include a cosmetic tattooing procedure.
